After having several days of minimal sleep, I rushed for my morning Science tutorial to be on time. The 2 hour lesson comprises of tutorial and practical. Today's lesson was on Electricity. I have always enjoyed calculating voltage and resistance. Hence when the practical started, I was full of enthusiasm. This time we were given circuits. It was fun experimenting and trying to relate the theories we had learnt. Once our Experiment 1 was done, Brandon went to get the appratus for the second one. He brought back a 'Digital Analog Training System ETS-700'. It was a device which could test the resistance and voltages. The task given to us was to find the value of resistance on the given resistors. After spending some time figuring out how the device works...we were able to carry on with activity. I was pretty intrigued by the device and as I was reading the symbols on the device, my eyes spotted "Banana" on the device. What could be a Banana on an electrical device? My classmates were also clueless as to what it could mean. I raised my hand to capture the attention of my tutor. He came down and he didn't know what it could be. I would have been pleased if he had tried to find out what it could be or sought someone's help. However he said, "Don't worry. You won't be touching on it". I was pretty disappointed. To think that this institution that I'm in, is supposed to provide us knowledge which can benefit the students that we would be undertaking in the future, his reply didn't help the cause. Before I could ask him more, he walked away to attend to another classmate. I spotted the lab technician and approached him. He was clueless too. This annoyed me further. Even after the lesson was over, I was wondering what could 'Banana' on the device be? I took a picture and I was asking every friend who was a Science student I came across during lunch. None could give me a satisfactory answer and most replies were rather corny which were nowhere near. Back at home, I decided to check out Wikipedia and found out what the 'Banana' was on the DATS ETS-700. It's a slot for one to insert a 'Banana plug'! A banana plug is used usually for audio systems. I was satisfied that Wikipedia was able to provide me with an answer. I simply love this website. It's just amazing. It has tons and tons of information. For those who want to know more, below is the link about Banana jacks and plugs.
